Closest Beachside Town to Chicago 

10 miles NE of Gary, the retreat is a short 35 minute drive from Chicago. 

Southshore/Metra line station is 2 miles away (free parking) and takes you directly to the Museum Campus (Shedd Aquarium, Field Natural History Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Adler Planetarium), the Loop, and all sight-seeing points in between. How Convenient!

For those not able to walk the dune path to the beach, Lake Street Beach Parking Lot is less than 1/4 mile from Retreat; park in the Handicap parking spaces and meet your party on the semi-private beach!

Easy Directions From Chicago:

-90/94 EAST

-Take the Skyway (90E)

-Take Exit 17 (65 North/US12/US20)

-Turn right onto US 12/20 East Dunes Highway

-Veer right onto US 20 East at fork in the road

-Turn left onto S. Lake Street (Walgreens on right, McDonalds on left)

-Head North, until you see the beautiful blue of Lake Michigan!

-Turn right on Juniper and take it to the end of the cul-de-sac--simple!

  • Just blocks away from the South Shore Centre for the Arts which is located at 665 S. Lake Street in the original Miller School circa 1909. The South Shore Centre for the Arts is a regional learning facility and showcase for the arts in Northwest Indiana, providing a working and learning environment for serious visual and performance artists and students of the arts.
